Repair Or Replace?
Deciding whether to repair or replace a boiler isn’t as straight forward as it should be. A lot of us have a boiler that still works well, but when do you continue to repair it, or simply replace? There are many factors to consider when it comes to deciding what to do with your boiler.
Older boilers often have less parts that can go wrong, which makes them more reliable and easier to repair. However, they are more likely to be only 60% efficient, and the rest of the heat is wasted. The decision to replace is more based on efficiency than reliability. If your boiler is a modern, energy efficient model, then having it repaired by a competent professional is the best course of action for getting it back to working order.
A main factor for upgrading your boiler is when you have to move it due to home improvements. You may decide to use your old one until you have finished but over time, parts become obsolete and a boiler cover provider may not cater to call-outs for that fault. Repairing or replacing depends on how long you wish to keep your old boiler and risk breakdown with a lessening chance of repair.
If the cost of repairing your boiler is low, or repairs are simple, then this will be the best choice. If your boiler is relatively new, it will likely still be covered with a warranty which will cover the cost of replacement parts.
